storytelling

& spiritual direction

“One of the deepest longings of the human soul is to be seen.”

-John O’Donohue

sacred seeing.

In the contemplative practice Visio Divina, sacred seeing, you sit with an image to see what is there—but also what’s beyond it. This kind of stillness—this posture of deep listening—invites wonder. And I believe wonder is where everything begins.

This sacred seeing is at the heart of everything I do at Juniper House. For me, it’s the thread that runs through spiritual direction and storytelling and what gets me up in the morning. Thanks for being here.

"I feel much better after speaking with Katie and appreciate the safe space that she provides. The honesty I've shared has made me feel more free and unburdened, and I've made practical discoveries about my life." - Margaret

  • spiritual direction

"Katie's focus on healing was a key factor in drawing me to spiritual direction. What has made it so meaningful for me is Katie's openness and ability/skill of using multiple mediums to approach my questions and thoughts. We integrate collages, photography, nature walks, labyrinths, and poetry into the process. And who knows what else we will use to explore and discover new insights into my spiritual journey!" - Sheryl

"I met Katie in the fall of 2012, when she was a graduate student in my Multimedia journalism class at Columbia College Chicago. Her immense talent was apparent from the get-go. It has been my pleasure to watch her continue to grow as a storyteller who is adept at telling those stories both with visuals (photos and video) and with words. She is a true pro and one of the nicest, hard-working people you'll ever meet." - Martha

“Katie is a warm-hearted person and a multi-faceted communicator. She not only elevated our messaging, but took photographs of people using our platform in the field that we will use well past our project date. She takes obtuse direction to create visuals that convey points I didn't know I wanted to make." - anonymous client

"My son is on the autism spectrum and it’s hard to capture his true personality. Katie did his senior pictures and she made him feel comfortable being his authentic self. I get so many compliments on how his pictures turned out. Katie is a true creative talent with an intuitive ability connect to others." - Jenny

“Ours wasn’t a typical wedding. Our story isn’t typical. But I still wanted to capture the celebration of our life together. The moments of real and beautiful time together with our families. To capture what others see between us. Katie’s amazing candid, photojournalistic style was the perfect choice. Not only is her photography beautiful, she has an eye that sees the sweet and special moments and she captures that in all its realness. Through all of our chaos she gave us photos that showed the love, the peace, the warmth, the wonderful. These are the memories I wanted to have of that moment.” - Tarah

“I have worked with Katie for over seven years, and I can honestly say she is the best documentary style photographer I have ever met. She has captured my family’s personality, growth, and milestones in a way that no one else could. She is a storyteller. I am grateful for the memories she has preserved for us.” - Alli
